Summit Huts Association – Janet’s Cabin

There is a hidden jewel accessible from Copper Mountain Resort, and it is called Janet’s Cabin. Built in 1990, Janet’s is the original backcountry hut in the Summit Hut Association group of huts. In the winter, it is a 5.5-mile hike up from the top of Copper’s Lumberjack lift that will take you to an elevation of 11,610 feet. Although you’ll be breathing a little heavier, the hard work is worth it when you come upon this beautiful, pine-log structure big enough to sleep 20 travelers. Once at the hut, there is a variety of terrain to sample for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and backcountry skiing. To spend the night at the hut, make reservations online or call ahead. A permit is required for uphill access.
