Gems and minerals are bountiful in the rocks in Colorado, rivaled only by the abundance in California. A casual hunter can spot a wide variety of colors. Gold nuggets have even been found by hikers!

Taking the rocks you find on public lands is permitted, but don’t go overboard. You can also request a permit from the Dillon Ranger District for taking rocks and minerals from the National Forest.
Find polished gemstones at souvenir shops around the county.
